Buckingham Place Sri Lanka is a quiet boutique hotel with swimming pool, close to Tengalle, but tucked away in a secluded area in the southernmost part of Sri Lanka. The beach is just five minutes away on foot and during my stay there in mid-January, was completely deserted.
The hotel overlooks the calm still waters of Rekawa Lagoon and it is near to three major national parks and the pristine beaches of Hambantota District.
Buckingham Place has only 12 modern suites and bedrooms with complete privacy. There’s free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning. During the day you can stroll along the vast empty beach near the hotel or you can canoe in the lagoon or ride a bicycle through the little villages. You can also just laze around the pool and read or sleep. It is the perfect place to relax and forget about the world.
Buckingham Place has an open-air restaurant that serves Sri Lankan and Western cuisine. I love Sri Lankan food so I opted for Sri Lankan breakfasts and dinners: fiery vegetable curries, milk rice with side dishes of samba, hoppers . . . A special time to hang out in the restaurant is dusk when you can have drinks overlooking the garden and savour the light of the early evening.
