If you are going to Glasgow, Scotland and want a high-tech design hotel that doesn’t cost a lot of money, check out the newly opened citizenM hotel in the theatre district of the city, only two blocks from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Like its sister hotels in Amsterdam (one in Schiphol Airport and another in the city itself), citizenM’s emphasis is on trendy, ultra-modern design with lots of high tech features such as free Wi-Fi, free on-demand movies, and Philips designed Moodpads that control the TV, music (iPod/iPhone docks), window blinds, temperature, colored ambient lighting and wake-up alarm.
citizenM Glasgow has 198 rooms housed in an 8-floor building; it is designed by the award-winning agency, Concrete. You will find contemporary living rooms fitted out with furniture from the Vitra collection, including Charles & Ray Eames Lounge Chairs, the Hella Jongerius Polder Sofa, an “Algae” by the Bourellec Brothers. The hotel features a 24/7 food and beverage outlet offering fresh sandwiches, warm breakfast, healthy wraps, sashimi, Italian coffee and more. Guests check in via touch-screen terminals (although there are still live human beings to assist you in case things go awry).
Best of all, room prices start at around £49 ($76 or €59) per night.
