The Fauzi Azar Inn is a 200-year-old Arab mansion turned guesthouse, offering 16 dormitory beds and private rooms (with private bathroom and air conditioning/heating) in a unique old-world atmosphere. The Fauzi Azar Inn style is intimate and relaxed, with a warm atmosphere where guests and staff can meet, share travel stories and tips, and make new and lasting friendships.
The Fauzi Azar Inn itself is located in the heart of Nazareth’s Old City, only about a minute’s walk from the central souk. All of Nazareth’s major attractions, including the Basilica of the Annunciation, the White Mosque (Masjid al-Abiad), and the Greek Orthodox St. Gabriel’s Church are no more than 10-15 minutes away from the Fauzi Azar. Wandering through the narrow streets of the Old City is a delight in itself, and both the Fauzi and other vantage points nearby afford wonderful panoramic views of Nazareth.
The building is owned by the Azar family, renowned as one of the richest and most powerful families in the Galilee. Built in stone in the 18th-century, today the Fauzi Azar Inn is a three-story building, incorporating several impressive features including a six-meter high, hand-painted ceiling, a Turkish marble floor, a magnificent main living area with panoramic views, and a courtyard decorated with elegant limestone arches.
The hotel offers an “off the beaten track” Nazareth city tour, led each morning at 9:15 am by their own local guides, all of whom are happy to share their knowledge of the city and their personal reflections on Nazareth’s rich past. The inn’s spacious living area has breathtaking views of the city, and an elegant terrace offers a sunny alternative.
Nazareth is located in the center of the lower Galilee, a region ideal for hiking. Northern Israel’s compelling, mountainous landscapes are dotted with sites of historical and religious significance. Hike in Jesus’ footsteps on the world-famous Jesus Trail. Discover wilderness, wildlife and ancient ruins on your own; or follow some of the area’s many marked trails. From the Mediterranean coast to the rocky, wooded mountains, down to the orchards of the Sea of Galilee and Jordan Valley, few places on earth offer such dramatic variation in climate and landscape within such a small area.
