If you are looking for a hotel in Nice with striking and unusual concept, check out Hi Hotel, a 38-room boutique hotel located only 200 metres from the sea, whose interiors were designed by matali crasset, a well-known French designer. She has completely altered the interiors of a building from the 1930s giving each space – a room, the bar, the spa – its own distinctive, striking look. The result is a modern, vibrant environment for visitors whose centre is the Happy Bar, a space that combines music, images, technology and culture.
HI has 9 concepts for its 38 rooms. Each has a completely different spatial orientation and colour scheme. Two of my favorites are the Techno Corner (pictured above) and the Indoor Terrace Room.
The Techno Corner is a room devoted to images and sound like a private auditorium. The widescreen TV can be viewed from the comfort of the bed or the bath; it also acts as a folding screen divider between the bathroom and the bedroom. The “sofablaster” is a couch with integrated speakers and headphones, and, in its armrests, a music collection from the Kompakt label.
By contrast, the Indoor Terrace Room revels in a Zen-like simplicity. Furniture is at the centre of the room and looks like an indoor terrace with an organic curtain providing privacy while showering. The toilets are like a hut and when lighted, glow like a lantern.
If you want to lie out on the beach, the hotel has HI Beach with lounge chairs for relaxation and comfort on the sand. There is also a pool on the 8th floor with a great view of the Mediterranean and the Alps. There is also a bar where you can hang out with friends.
As I mentioned earlier, the Happy Bar (see photo below) is probably the most impressive room in this hotel. Its centrepiece is a suspended nacelle, impressive yet light, like a modern alcove. It structures the whole space, filtering the light coming in from both the street and the atrium garden. In the evening, the atmosphere turns festive with lighting effects. The nacelle comes to life with the presence of live DJs (sound designed by Kompakt) or the Hi.mages video screenings.
If you like spa treatments, HI has several packages to choose from, which use the luxury bath and skincare line, REN. There is a contemporary steam bath, made entirely out of resin. The hammam has two hot areas and two adjoining rooms, one for musical relaxation and another for massages.
Rates for a double room start at 155 EUR. The hotel offers special deals during the off-season and room plus spa packages.
