Hotel Calatrava Mallorca is a new 16-room boutique hotel in Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island. It is one of the few contemporary upscale hotels located close to the Cathedral that offers sweeping views of the Mediterranean. The restored 19th century building has been renovated and redesigned by architect Cristina Martí Crespi.
The hotel is named after the atmospheric neighbourhood of Sa Calatrava, in the historic center of Palma. Within walking distance from the hotel are the Cathedral, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the Arab Baths, one of the rare surviving gems of Muslim architecture in the Balearic islands.
There are three types of rooms at Hotel Calatrava, 10 of which have views of the Bay of Palma and Parc de la Mar: 6 Suites (60 square metres) with sea views and a terrace, 4 Junior Suites (40 to 60 square metres) overlooking Parc de la Mar, and 6 Deluxe rooms (25 to 40 square metres). All rooms are spacious and have king sized beds. There’s air-conditioning and free WiFi.
One of the best features of Hotel Calatrava is the rooftop cafe-bistro with views of the sea. The menu that includes snacks, cakes, coffee, tea, wine and beer. It’s a wonderful place to relax after a long day of exploring Mallorca. You can also get massage treatments at the hotel’s spa which has a Finnish sauna and jacuzzi.
There are so many things to do in Mallorca. If you like hiking, the Tramuntana mountain range has a great variety of trails where you can go on short morning hikes or long day hikes. The village of Deia is worth a trip because of its beautiful location and historic significance; the town of Soller is also a great place to stop for lunch or dinner. For beaches, check out Cala Tuent, Sa Calobra, Cala Agulla, and Es Trenc.
