If you want to stay in a luxurious hotel in Avignon, check out the Hotel d’Europe, located in the 16th century residence of the Marquis de Graveson within the walls of the old city. Built in 1580, it became a hotel (established by Madame Pierron in 1799) and took on the name of Hôtel d’Europe upon the insistence of her friend, Napoléon Bonaparte. The hotel has a rich history, and over the course of the 19th century, it has welcomed many famous individuals, including Queen Astrid of Spain, Victor Hugo, and Charles Dickens.

Today, the hotel continues to offer a truly luxurious and atmospheric experience with its beautiful period furniture, including commodious dressers and antique wardrobes in its 40 rooms and 4 suites. Modern amenities such as WiFi, air conditioning, and satellite television are available. There are two suite categories to pick from: the Junior Suites with a terrace overlooking the city of Avignon, and the Suites with an unobstructed view of the Palais des Papes.

The hotel’s chef, Bruno d’Angélis, creates contemporary cuisine full of many flavors distinctive of the region, which has made the restaurant, La Vieille Fontaine, to be one of the best in the Provence. It has also been awarded a star in the Michelin Guide.
