Hotel Icon Hong Kong: Quiet Sophistication in Kowloon

Hotel Icon Hong Kong is a well-designed, well-run hotel in Kowloon at a reasonable price.  We stayed at the Icon last year and found the service to be attentive and the rooms spacious. The big plus: a beautiful gym and pool overlooking the harbour. Designed by Terence Conran, William Lim and Rocco Yim, Hotel Icon is a handsome mix of quiet, streamlined design in its rooms and suites and showy, bling-oriented public spaces, including a vertical garden wall, soaring wood-and-glass helical staircase, terrace pool and Angsana Spa. Open kitchen stations serve global favourites from sushi to pasta, while the all-day cafe Green morphs into a bar at night serving cocktails.

Hotel-ICON Hong Kong

There is growing competition in Hong Kong for glitz and show in the new hotels (with the Ritz-Carlton taking the prize as the “highest hotel in Hong Kong”). The Icon provides excellent value for a luxury hotel at a contemporary, yet relaxed setting.  If you want to stay in Kowloon, this is a good choice, but we did find the hotel a little far to walk to the Star Ferry terminal and to the MTR (underground) station.  Yet, taxis in Hong Kong are inexpensive, a hotel shuttle is also available, and the price saving is significant compared to staying in similar hotels Hong Kong Island, so the choice is yours.
