With an exterior that resembles the façades of traditional Dutch houses stacked on top of one another, the Inntel Hotel in Zaandam, outside Amsterdam, has attracted a lot of attention not just from travelers but also from design publications. Most of the hotels on the periphery of Amsterdam, especially those near Schiphol Airport, are bland and uninspiring, so the Inntel Hotel is a minor revolution in hotel design at least in this part of the world.
Designed by WAM Architects, the 12-storey hotel has 160 rooms, a swimming pool and spa. Rooms are decorated in a clean, contemporary style. Rates start at around 100 EUR (for a double room). The hotel is close to the Zaandam train station where you can catch a train to Amsterdam (15 min) or Schiphol Airport. Zaandam is a convenient place to stay if most of your meetings will be outside Amsterdam and you need to drive (the traffic into and out of Amsterdam is a huge nightmare).
