Inle Princess Resort: tranquility in Inle Lake

Inle Princess Resort is a wonderful hotel on the shore of the majestic Inle Lake in Shan State in Burma (Myanmar). Located at a nearly 3,000 foot elevation, the area is one of the country’s most picturesque places. Now that the political situation has improved in Burma, it is time to hurry and visit before this beautiful country and its gentle people are swamped by tourists and rapid development.  Inle Lake will likely suffer a fate no different than that of Chiang Mai or Phuket in Thailand, so visiting the region immediately is a must.

Inle Princess Resort has 45 Traditional Chalets and 1 Princess’s Chalet: 27 are with Lake Front View and 9 with Private Lake and Garden View and 10 with Mountain View. Each Chalet has a large front facing glass window that naturally lights up the inside of the room and also provides you with fantastic views of the surrounding scenery. The bed is positioned in the center of the chalet beneath the high roof top. Each Lake View Chalet has a terrace facing the lake. The Garden View Chalets overlook colourful gardens and ponds. All Chalets are surrounded by rice paddy fields and small ponds which are home to many varieties of fresh water fish and wild birds.

WiFi is available in the lobby and the restaurant offers excellent Burmese dishes. Sitting on the deck overlooking the lake during sunset while drinking Martinis was one of the highlights of our stay.

Inle Princess View

There are many activities around Inle Lake: birdwatching, visiting the villages located on islands in the lake, a meditation monastery, the Indain temple complex which is a “mini Bagan” with hundreds of ancient pagodas, many of which have been neglected over the years, so trees have grown inside of them.
