La Maddalenda Hotel and Yacht Club: military base converted into luxury hotel

If you are going to Sardinia, check out this former US military base that has undergone extensive remodeling and has been transformed into a fabulous hotel and yacht club in the beautiful Costa Smeralda. Don’t be surprised if find yourself gasping at the dramatic and vast entrance lobby with corridors stretching far into the distance.

Just as the island is filled with impressive architecture, the hotel’s hall is very modern with strategically placed sofas to not only add comfort, but to create a bright and welcoming atmosphere. La Maddalenda Hotel has only 96 bedrooms with almost all rooms enjoying stunning sea views. The rooms are designed with absolute comfort and indulgence in mind. There is a spa for relaxation and rejuvenation; the wellness area has two saunas, a steam bath, and a modern herbal bath.  There is also a well equipped gym with terrific ocean views and an outdoor pool on the rooftop which has been described by many as “quite heavenly”.

The breakfast buffet is abundant and presented in an elegant yet orderly fashion and the room it is served in is furnished with the impeccable style of the rest of hotel. The staff is informative, helpful, and courteous.

However, the hotel is still undergoing renovations. The upside is that the hotel offers many deals to accommodate for these minor inconveniences.  Despite the ongoing construction, the hotel is lovely and unique with its modern and futuristic twist that have been transformed to an extensively well-designed place. It’s hard to believe that this hotel and yacht club, which was once a naval base supporting submarines, a military installation that opened in the 1970s and housed as many as 2600 people, is now one of the most luxurious spots on the island.
