Le Gray is a gorgeous luxury hotel that opened in 2009 in the historic center of Beirut. The cool, modern interiors were designed by Gordon Campbell Gray and Mary Fox Linton. The hotel has 87 spacious rooms and suites equipped with free Wi-Fi, HD LCD televisions, walk-in showers and baths stocked with products from REN (a UK-based natural skincare line).
But it would be a shame if you spent all your time in your room, comfortable as it may be. The most impressive features of Le Gray are Bar ThreeSixty (with a 360 degree views across the city, the mountains and the Mediterranean), Indigo on the Roof (a rooftop restaurant where you can dine on fantastic Mediterranean food while enjoying stunning views across the city), and the 17-metre chlorine free swimming pool with sun deck.
If you want to indulge in beauty and spa treatments, make an appointment at the PureGray Health Club and Spa which has several treatment rooms and a gym. The spa uses products from the luxury Spanish skincare line, Natura Bissé.
The hotel is in the historic part of Beirut’s central district known for its beautifully restored Ottoman buildings, mosques and churches. It faces Place des Martyrs and rue Weygand, a street that is famous for luxury designer boutiques and chic restaurants.
Beirut is a fascinating city filled with history, surrounded by so much natural beauty and known for its wonderful cuisine. Today many of its historic buildings are being torn down to make way for ugly high-rises, but a strong vocal group of local residents is opposing these changes. Many challenges face Beirut. A lot of people were chased away by the last 2006 Lebanon war, but one hopes that incidents such the last war never repeat. Lebanon is a country with so much potential: a stunning coastline, impressive mountains, a rich and fascinating history, some of the best food in the world, and a lively social scene. If it manages to maintain peace, I have no doubt Beirut will be one of the top cities to visit and live in the Mediterranean.
