If you are going to Mendoza, Argentina and are looking for an intimate boutique hotel that is close to small family owned wineries, don’t miss the Posada Borravino, a wonderful little country hotel in the town of Chacras de Corio, approximately 20 minutes from Mendoza airport. Posada Borravino has only eight rooms with a total capacity of 18 persons, meaning you get personal attention from the friendly owners and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Chacras de Corio.
The posada is located on a quiet street lined with poplar trees and surrounded by 19th century and modern country homes belonging to rich Argentines from Buenos Aires and owners of wineries. The interiors are beautifully decorated in a rustic but still modern country style. The rooms are spacious and equipped with large king-sized beds with TV and free Wi-Fi. There is a delightful interior garden with a small pool and lounge beds for those warm days in Mendoza. Because we visited Mendoza last week (winter), we did not have a chance to enjoy the pool.
We loved the breakfasts at Posada Borravino with their excellent cappuccinos, croissants, Argentine breakfast pastries from the region, cheese, ham, a selection of cereals, fresh fruit, fresh juices, milk and chocolate milk. Although they don’t have a restaurant at the posada, they can serve you a light dinner consisting of very delicious charcuterie (salami, prosciutto and mortadella from the farm/vineyard of the owner’s cousin), cheeses, pickled vegetables and tapenades with bread. We enjoyed a candlelit dinner at the posada on one night of our stay because we were not very hungry that evening (after a six-course lunch at one of the local wineries) and we did not feel like venturing out into the cold.
One of the best things about the posada is the owners’ recommendations. They are well acquainted with the wineries in the region and can advise you about which wineries have the best views of the Andes and which ones have the best restaurants; which are the best small, family owned vineyards; and where to eat out in Chacras de Corio. They can make reservations for you (for winery tours, lunch and dinner at wineries) as well and organize bicycle tours of the wineries in Chacras.
We really loved staying at this posada, away from the center of Mendoza (which is quite ugly and unremarkable). And we appreciated the peace and quiet of the location, as well as the warmth and friendliness of the owners (he is from Andorra, she is from Argentina). The personal attention and small intimate atmosphere are the reasons I prefer to stay in boutique hotels and guesthouses. You never get this level of service in a large (chain) hotel and believe me, these large international chains exist in central Mendoza and they charge you more money.
If I come back to Mendoza, I will definitely stay again at the Posada Borravino.
