If you are thinking of renting a house this summer, consider L’Ancienne Poste, a restored former post office in Menerbes, a village in the Provence. Menerbes was immortalized by Peter Mayle in the novel “A Year in Provence” and although there are many tourists during the day, it is quiet at night and Provence remains one of the most delightful places in Europe to spend a summer holiday. It has history, culture, amazing food and open spaces for hiking (notably the Parc du Luberon) and biking. Also close by are the charming villages of Oppede, Roussillon, Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt and Lourmarin (where French philosopher-writer Albert Camus lived and was buried).
L’Ancienne Poste can accommodate up to 10 people. The house has 450 square meters, with a courtyard and access to the swimming pool at the boutique hotel across the street. The ground floor has an open living room and dining room with a fireplace, and a large kitchen. The first floor has two master bedrooms and a library. The second floor has three bedrooms and a spacious sitting room. Finally there is a rooftop terrace for those who want to enjoy sweeping views over the Luberon at sunset. The interior of the house is decorated in a contemporary style; the kitchen is stocked with copper pots, utensils, and modern kitchen appliances. There is free Wi-Fi and satellite TV service.
