Rocksresort: minimalist chic ski apartments in Laax, Switzerland

Finding a ski chalet or apartment is often hit-and-miss. Most apartments feature little in the way of stylish design and hardly any have any architectural merit. Not so at Rocksresort, a ski apartment complex adjacent to the base station in Laax, Switzerland.

Rocksresort’s exterior is striking: cubic structures in rough-hewn stone look almost alien except they blend into this rather alien-looking landscape of stark grey shapes and hard stone. The apartments are gathered around a central square that contains shops, restaurants and bar. Facilities include swimming pool, steam bath, saunas, jacuzzi, and solarium.

Indeed, the interiors of the two- and four-bedroom apartments feature clean lines and minimalist interiors. Rocksresort uses natural materials from the local region and the living spaces are designed to allow in as much light as possible. Architectural design is by Domenig Architekten using Valser Quartzite stone facades on the exterior.

The hotel is open for arrivals on Thursdays and Sundays only. There is a minimum length of stay requirement of 3, 4 or 7 nights or more.

There is a winter and a summer pricelist so check the website for the latest prices. To give you an example of pricing: for 2 adults and 2 children, staying between 13-20 February 2011, a 55 square metre apartment with 2 bedrooms (1 queen bed, 2 twin beds) costs 2156 SFR (1600 EUR) for the week, basic price (not including extras or taxes).

Many of the apartments are for sale so if you have been thinking of buying a ski apartment in Switzerland, you should check out Rocksresort.
