South Food and Wine bar happy hour: take advantage of the low Aussie dollar

*UPDATE: South has closed. It will reopen under a different name, with a different formula.

South Food and Wine Bar has been rolling out these great recession specials lately. The most recent is the Aussie dollar happy hour where you get to celebrate (or commiserate with others, depending on which currency your portfolio is denominated in) the sinking Australian dollar.

South has introduced the Currency Converter Happy Hour from 4-6pm Monday through Friday. South’s recent newsletter says: “The Australian dollar has tanked – so sip in sympathy on a savvy blanc or shiraz – you’ll pay the exchange rate of the day, today that’s a $10 glass of wine for $6.50!” They have also created a bar bites menu with barramundi (my favorite), kingfish sashimi and other tasty appetizers for just $5.
