If you are going to London, the St. Martin’s Lane Hotel located in Covent Garden is one of the best places to stay. Covent Garden is not only centrally located (easy access via the Tube to St. Pancras Station where the Eurostar terminal is located) with lots of wonderful restaurants, cafes and boutiques around it, but it’s also the heart of London’s theatre district. If you are planning to see a play, this is one of the most convenient locations in which to be based.
The hotel is one of the first luxury boutique hotels in the area with an all-white, minimalistic lobby, mood lighting and video screens in the lifts. Rooms are very small and painted white, with little space for storing suitcases, clothes, and shoes, but they have large bathrooms equipped with powerful showers, separate toilet, and excellent bath and body products from Malin+Goetz. I had a room on the 4th floor which was very quiet and had a lot of light. Beds are firm and comfortable, too. In the rooms you will find a small booklet containing the hotel’s suggestions for restaurants, cafes, and things to see and do in London.
The hotel has an Asian-fusion restaurant called Asia de Cuba which combines Asian and Cuban cuisine served in a gorgeous colonnaded room. The hotel’s Light Bar is considered to be one of the top bars in London and if you do a Google search on St. Martin’s Lane Hotel, you’ll see celebrities popping in and out of the lobby. One of the best amenities for guests is complementary use of GymBox next door for workouts.
The hotel’s concierge is a great source of information for everything from the best ethnic restaurants in the area to theatre productions to best espresso in Covent Garden.
Although it has a reputation for being outrageously expensive, St. Martin’s Lane Hotel has excellent deals from time to time so check online hotel bookings websites for the latest prices.
