The Eugenia: classic colonial boutique hotel in Bangkok (CLOSED)

The Eugenia Hotel has closed. It is now only The Eugenia Spa.

If you are heading for Bangkok, make sure you check out this gorgeous 12-suite boutique hotel owned by Taiwanese designer, Eugene Yu-Ching Yeh. It is housed in a 19th century colonial mansion and boasts of a small swimming pool surrounded by lush tropical foliage, a cozy library and a cafe. The rooms are filled with antique furniture, four-poster beds and vintage light fixtures. Unlike many new boutique hotels in Asia, the Eugenia feels like someone’s house. The design elements are not meant to impress and shock the guests, but to make them feel at home.

The Eugenia is such a gem. Many Asian cities have destroyed too much of their heritage, knocking down old buildings and houses, tossing out the old and installing the new without much thought. So staying in a place like this in Bangkok is an experience you should not miss.

  1. The food in Koh Tao is delicious and not expensive, all the Thais we met were very friendly and eager to advice use. We stayed at Bann Thai Resort and Spa- a completely different place to the busy tourist trap in the South of Thailand.

  2. That’s an amazing looking hotel. I used to live in Soi 33 just near Phrom Phong BTS station, very interesting neighborhood.
