Hotel Droog: sleep, dine, shop, eat at this cool boutique hotel in Amsterdam

boutique hotel amsterdam

Located in the oldest historic district of Amsterdam, Hotel Droog is a hip new boutique hotel that promises to overturn the concept of a hotel. The goal is to provide guests with a place to shop, eat, stroll (in a garden), attend a lecture series, drink and finally sleep. It features the Droog Store, Gallery, Dining Room, Fairy Tale Garden, Beauty at Cosmania, Fashion at Kabinet, Products at Weltevree, and of course a Bedroom. The hotel comprises 700 square meters and inhabits a 17th-century building. The all-in-one concept strives to be the new hip cultural heart of Amsterdam.

The ten room member-only hotel, concept restaurant, and exhibition space were designed by Tokyo-based Atelier Bow-Wow. The co-founder and director of Droog, Renny Ramakers, states that “The concept of a hotel has been reversed. Whereas a hotel is usually mostly about sleeping, here [they] have enlarged and emphasized all the aspects that many hotels also offer and made them central to the hotel experience—and it even has a room to sleep in… [it] brings all of [their] activities under one roof—from curation to product design, exhibitions and lectures—and invites people to plug in as they choose.”

If you are interested in high fashion, Fashion by KABINET at the hotel  is an intimate boutique where you can find exclusive fashion labels such as  Isabel Marant, Maison Martin Margiela, and Hussein Chalayan.

If gardens are more your thing, the Escape at Fairy Tail Garden, designed by French designers Claude Pasquer and Corinne Détroyat, is a courtyard that has been transformed into a shelter for biodiversity, where natural and artificial elements intermingle; it provides a romantic and ideal location for a magical stroll.
